Thea Guanzon's Hurricane Wars Series (Trilogy?)
So, I'm at least a quarter way, or so, through A Monsoon Rising and I'm wondering just how much Talasyn is missing by not being at her Grandmother's court. At the moment, she's still dealing with learning how to work with Alaric in sync so that they can save their part of the world from the Voidfell. The sequence of events that happened to shape both characters and the war that shaped their lives and early enmity is only one layer to the story tapestry. Then there's Talasyn's grandmother and her secretive machinations and manipulations. I'm not even sure she holds any real love for her granddaughter. I dread to think what her court must be plotting. It's got such a flavor of the far east to it. Another layer is the danger of the Voidfell and what will happen if she and Alaric are unable to find a way to contain it. It will be interesting to see where the second book goes. I'm up to around chapter 14 now.
